Being a “night person,” I experience renewed creativity, energy and resourcefulness than at any other time. During the day I am easily distracted and find it difficult to focus.
But between the hours of 10:00 p.m. until about 3:00 a.m., I experience fewer distractions, greater mental clarity, and a sense of calm and tranquility. My productivity is enhanced allowing me to accomplish more.
During my post graduate education this preference for nighttime work was solidified. Most of my major projects were completed during those hours. And not to boast, but to emphasize my point, my GPA was 4.0 throughout my degree program.
However, finding balance between work and my circadian rhythm proved problematic. I had to find work in my field that would allow me to work in sync with my natural predilections. Eventually, I resorted to becoming an online adjunct professor which allowed me to operate at maximum capacity and thus be most productive.
Which do you find is your lot and how have you managed your preference to attain balance?
